Paying back Debts

It was reported from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“Whoever takes people’s money with the intention of repaying it, Allah will help him to repay it; whoever takes people’s money with the intention of wasting it, Allaah will destroy him.”

(Al-Bukhaari, 2212).

Prophet PBUH in dreams

Narrated Anas: The Prophet PBUH said, "Whoever has seen me in a #dream, then no doubt, he has seen me, for #Satan cannot imitate my shape. [Sahih Bukhari]

Matters on the Day of Judgement

On the authority of Abu Harayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace be upon him), who said: Allah (mighty and sublime be He) says:
The first of his actions for which a servant of Allah will be held accountable on the Day of Resurrection will be his prayers. If they are in order, then he will have prospered and succeeded: and if they are wanting, then he will have failed and lost. If there is something defective in his obligatory prayers, the Lord (glorified and exalted be He) will say: See if My #servant has any supererogatory prayers with which may be completed that which was defective in his obligatory prayers. Then the rest of his actions will be judged in like fashion.

It was related by at-Tirmidhi (also by Abu Dawud, an-Nasa'i, Ibn Majah and Ahmad).

As my servant expects me to be

On the authority of Abu Harayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Allah the Almighty said: I am as My servant thinks I am (1). I am with him when he makes mention of Me. If he makes mention of Me to himself, I make mention of him to Myself; and if he makes mention of Me in an assembly, I make mention of him in an assemble better than it. And if he draws near to Me an arm's length, I draw near to him a fathom's length. And if he comes to Me walking, I go to him at speed.

(1) Another possible rendering of the Arabic is: "I am as My servant expects Me to be". The meaning is that forgiveness and acceptance of repentance by the Almighty is subject to His servant truly believing that He is forgiving and merciful. However, not to accompany such belief with right action would be to mock the Almighty.

It was related by al-Buhkari (also by Muslim, at-Tirmidhi and Ibn-Majah).

Mondays and Thursdays

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: The gates of #Paradise will be opened on Mondays and on Thursdays, and every servant [of Allah] who associates nothing with Allah will be forgiven, except for the man who has a grudge against his brother. [About them] it will be said: Delay these two until they are reconciled; delay these two until they are reconciled.

It was related by Muslim (also by Malik and Abu Dawud)

Rely on Allah SWT

'Umar said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say, "If you were to rely on Allah as He should be relied on, He would provide for you as He provides for the #birds. They go out in the morning hungry and return in the evening full." [at-Tirmidhi]

Example of a Mujahid (one who does Jihad) in Allah's Cause

[Sahih Bukhari: Volume 4, Book 52, Number 46]
Narrated Abu Huraira (Radi Allah Anhu): I heard Allah's Apostle (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) saying, "The example of a Mujahid in Allah's Cause-- and Allah knows better who really strives in His Cause----is like a person who fasts and prays continuously. Allah guarantees that He will admit the Mujahid in His Cause into Paradise if he is killed, otherwise He will return him to his home safely with rewards and war booty."

[Sahih Bukhari: Volume 4, Book 52, Number 48]
Narrated Abu Huraira (Radi Allah Anhu): The Prophet Muhammad (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) said, "Whoever believes in Allah and His Apostle, offer prayer perfectly and fasts the month of Ramadan, will rightfully be granted Paradise by Allah, no matter whether he fights in Allah's Cause or remains in the land where he is born." The people said, "O Allah's Apostle ! Shall we acquaint the people with the is good news?" He said, "Paradise has one-hundred grades which Allah has reserved for the Mujahidin who fight in His Cause, and the distance between each of two grades is like the distance between the Heaven and the Earth. So, when you ask Allah (for something), ask for Al-firdaus which is the best and highest part of Paradise." (i.e. The sub-narrator added, "I think the Prophet also said, 'Above it (i.e. Al-Firdaus) is the Throne of Beneficent (i.e. Allah), and from it originate the rivers of Paradise.")

Quran: Surah An-Nahl verse 61

"And if Allah had destroyed men for their iniquity, He would not leave on the earth a single creature, but He respites them till an appointed time; so when their doom will come they shall not be able to delay (it) an hour nor can they bring (it) on (before its time)."

Quran 16:61

Allah will be against three persons on the Resurrection Day

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 3, Book 34, Number 430]

Narrated Abu Huraira (Radi Allah Anhu) : The Prophet Muhammad (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) said, "Allah says, 'I will be against three persons on the Day of Resurrection:

1. One who makes a covenant in My Name, but he proves treacherous.

2. One who sells a free person (as a slave) and eats the price,

3. And one who employs a laborer and gets the full work done by him but does not pay him his wages.' "

Khalil-ul-Allah (Allah's Friend)

"And he said: Surely I fly to my lord; He will guide me. "O my Lord! Grant me a righteous (son)!" So We gave him the good news of a boy ready to suffer and forbear. Then, when (the son) reached (the age of) (serious) work with him, he said: "O my son! I see in vision that I offer thee in sacrifice: Now see what is thy view!" (The son) said: "O my father! Do as thou art commanded: thou will find me, if God so wills one practicing Patience and Constancy!" So when they had both submitted their wills (to God), and he had laid him prostrate on his forehead (for sacrifice), We called out to him "O Abraham! "Thou hast already fulfilled the vision!" - thus indeed do We reward those who do right. For this was obviously a trial. And We ransomed him with a Feat sacrifice. And We perpetuated (praise) to him among the later generations. Peace be on Ibrahim. Thus do We reward the doers of good. Surely he was one of Our believing servants. And We gave him the good news of Ishaq, a prophet among the good ones. And We showered Our blessings on him and on Ishaq; and of their offspring are the doers of good, and (also) those who are clearly unjust to their own souls."

[37. Surah As-Saffat : Ayahs 99-113]

"And who has a better religion than he who submits himself entirely to Allah? And he is the doer of good (to others) and follows the faith of Ibrahim, the upright one, and Allah took Ibrahim as a friend."

 [4. Surah Nisaa : Ayahs 125]

Desiring World's Life & Hereafter

"Whoever desires this world's life and its finery, We will pay them in full their deeds therein, and they shall not be made to. suffer loss in respect of them."   "These are they for whom there is nothing but fire in the hereafter, and what they wrought in it shall go for nothing, and vain is what they do."      [11. Surah Hud : Ayah 15-16]

"There are some people who say, Our Lord! give us in the world, and they shall have no resting place."  "And there are some among them who say: Our Lord! grant us good in this world and good in the hereafter, and save us from the chastisement of the fire." "They shall have (their) portion of what they have earned, and Allah is swift in reckoning."    [2. Surah Al-Baqarah : Ayah 200-202]

"Whoever desires this present life, We hasten to him therein what We please for whomsoever We desire, then We assign to him the hell; he shall enter it despised, driven away."   "And whoever desires the hereafter and strives for it as he ought to strive and he is a believer; (as for) these, their striving shall surely be accepted." [17. Surah Bani Israel : Ayah 18-19]

"Whoever desires the gain of the hereafter, We will give him more of that again; and whoever desires the gain of this world, We give him of it, and in the hereafter he has no portion.    "[42. Surah Ash-Shurah : Ayah 20]
"Say: Shall We inform you of the greatest losers in (their) deeds?"  "(These are) they whose labor is lost in this world's life and they think that they are well versed in skill of the work of hands."  "These are they who disbelieve in the communications of their Lord and His meeting, so their deeds become null, and therefore We will not set up a balance for them on the day of resurrection."
[18. Surah Kahf : Ayah 103-105]

If Allah wants to do good to somebody, He afflicts him with trials

If Allah wants to do good to somebody, He afflicts him with trials
[Sahih Bukhari: Volume 7, Book 70, Number 548]

Narrated Abu Huraira (Radi Allah Anhu): Allah's Apostle (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) said, "If Allah wants to do good to somebody, He afflicts him with trials.

[Sahih Bukhari: Volume 7, Book 70, Number 545] Narrated Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri and Abu Huraira (Radi Allah Anhu): The Prophet Muhammad (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam

) said, "No fatigue, nor disease, nor sorrow, nor sadness, nor hurt, nor distress befalls a Muslim, even if it were the prick he receives from a thorn, but that Allah expiates some of his sins for that."

[Sahih Bukhari: Volume 7, Book 70, Number 547]
Narrated Abu Huraira (Radi Allah Anhu): Allah's Apostle (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) said, "The example of a believer is that of a fresh tender plant; from whatever direction the wind comes, it bends it, but when the wind becomes quiet, it becomes straight again. Similarly, a believer is afflicted with calamities (but he remains patient till Allah removes his difficulties)  And an impious wicked person is like a pine tree which keeps hard and straight till Allah cuts (breaks) it down when He wishes."

‎4 Important things from Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

[Sahih Bukhari: Volume 3, Book 29, Number 87]

Narrated Qaza'a, the slave of Ziyad: Abu Said (Radi Allah Anhu) who participated in twelve Ghazawat with the Prophet (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) said, I heard four things from Allah's Apostle (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) (or I narrate them from the Prophet ) which won my admiration and appreciation. They are:

1. No lady should travel without her husband or without a Dhu-Mahram for a two-days' journey.

2. No fasting is permissible on two days of 'Id-al-Fitr, and 'Id-al-Adha.

3. No prayer (may be offered) after two prayers: after the 'Asr prayer till the sun set and after the morning prayer till the sun rises.

4. Not to travel (for visiting) except for three mosques: Masjid-al-Haram (in Mecca), my Mosque (in Medina), and Masjid-al-Aqsa (in Jerusalem).

Nights and Days are two signs of Allah SWT

"They ask thee, (O Muhammad sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam), of new moons, say: They are fixed seasons for mankind and for the pilgrimage."    [2. Surah Al-Baqarah : Ayah 189]

"He causes the dawn to break; and He has made the night for rest, and the sun and the moon for reckoning; this is an arrangement of the Mighty, the Knowing. And He it is Who has made the stars for you that you might follow the right way thereby in the darkness of the land and the sea; truly We have made plain the communications for a people who know."  [6. Surah Al-An'am : Ayah 96-97]

"He throws the veil of night over the day, which it pursues incessantly; and (He created) the sun and the moon and the stars, made subservient by His command."     [7. Surah Al-Araaf : Ayah 54]

"He it is Who appointed the sun a splendour and the moon a light, and measured for her stages, that ye might know the number of the years, and the reckoning. Allah created not (all) that save in truth. He detaileth the revelations for people who have knowledge."     [10. Surah Yunus : Ayah 5]

"And He has made subservient for you the night and the day and the sun and the moon, and the stars are made subservient by His commandment; most surely there are signs in this for a people who ponder."     [16. Surah Al-Nahl : Ayah 12]

"And We have made the night and the day two signs, then We have made the sign of the night to pass away and We have made the sign of the day manifest, so that you may seek grace from your Lord, and that you might know the numbering of years and the reckoning; and We have explained everything with distinctness."   [17. Surah Bani Israel : Ayah 12]

"Blessed is He Who made the constellations in the heavens and made therein a lamp and a shining moon. And He it is Who made the night and the day to follow each other for him who desires to be mindful or desires to be thankful."        [25. Surah Furqan : Ayah 61-62]

Allah knows what is in the Hearts

"Surely Allah knows what is in the hearts."   [3. Surah Aal-e-Imran : Ayah 119]

"Say: Had you remained in your houses, those for whom slaughter was ordained would certainly have gone forth to the places where they would be slain, and that Allah might test what was in your breasts and that He might purge what was in your hearts; and Allah knows what is in the breasts."   [3. Surah Aal-e-Imran : Ayah 154]

"And He is Cognizant of what is in the hearts."
[27. Surah Al-Hadid : Ayah 6]

"He knows what is in the heavens and the earth, and He knows what you hide and what you manifest; and Allah is Cognizant of what is in the hearts."
[6. Surah At-Tagabun : Ayah 4]

"And conceal your word or manifest it; surely He is Cognizant of what is in the hearts. Does He not know, Who created? And He is the Knower of the subtleties, the Aware."
[67. Surah Al-Mulk : Ayah 13-14]

Mistakes by Son of Adam

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Every son of Adam makes mistakes, and the best of those who make mistakes are those who repent.” (Tirmidhi No. 2499)

Most Valuable things in life

The most valuable things in life are a tongue which mentions Allah, a grateful heart and a believing wife who helps a man with his faith. (Tirmidhi, Hadith 721)

Conveying the message of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allâh be upon him) said: “Convey from me even if it is (only) one Ayah [i.e. Verse].” [Bukhari, 3461]

Quran: Surah Yaseen verse 40

"It is not allowable for the sun to reach the moon, nor does the night overtake the day, but each, in an orbit, is swimming."      Quran 36:40

Quran: Surah An-Nisa verse 85

‎"Whoever intercedes for a good cause will have a reward therefrom; and whoever intercedes for an evil cause will have a burden therefrom. And ever is Allah, over all things, a Keeper"

Quran 4:85

Everything has a heart

Hadrat Anas (RA)reported that the Messenger of Allah (Peace And Blessings Be Upon Him) has said, “Everything has a heart, and the heart of the Quran is Surah Yasin. Allah records anyone who recites Yasin as having recited the Quran ten times.” [Sunan Tirmidhi, Vol 2, Page 116]

You will follow the ways of those nations who were before you

Narrated Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri:The Prophet said, "You will follow the ways of those nations who were before you, span by span and cubit by cubit (i.e., inch by inch) so much so that even if they entered a hole of a mastigure, you would follow them." We said, "O Allah's Apostle! (Do you mean) the Jews and the Christian's?" He said, "Whom else?"        (S.Bukhari 92, Hadith 422)

Thankful slave

Narrated Al-Mughira bin Shu'ba: The Prophet used to pray so much that his feet used to become edematous or swollen, and when he was asked as to why he prays so much, he would say, "Shall I not be a thankful slave (to Allah)?     Volume 8, Book 76, Number 478  [Sahih Al Bukhari]

Worldly wealth rejected

Narrated Anas: The Prophet said, "Allah will say to that person of the (Hell) Fire who will receive the least punishment, 'If you had everything on the earth, would you give it as a ransom to free yourself (i.e. save yourself from this Fire)?' He will say, 'Yes.' Then Allah will say, 'While you were in the backbone of Adam, I asked you much less than this, i.e. not to worship others besides Me, but you insisted on worshipping others besides me"     ‎Sahih Bukhari Volume 4, Book 55, Number 551

Position of Jesus (pbuh) in Islam

(i) Islam is the only non-Christian faith, which makes it an article of faith to believe in Jesus (pbuh). No Muslim is a Muslim if he does not believe in Jesus (pbuh).

(ii) We believe that he was one of the mightiest Messengers of Allah (swt).

(iii) We believe that he was born miraculously, without any male intervention, which many modern day Christians do not believe.

(iv) We believe he was the Messiah translated Christ (pbuh).

(v) We believe that he gave life to the dead with God’s permission.

(iv) We believe that he healed those born blind, and the lepers with God’s permission.

Rewards for staying Patient

The Blessed Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Allah the Exalted says 'I have no reward other than Paradise for a believing slave of mine who remains patient for My sake when I take away his beloved one from among the inhabitants of the world' (Bukhari)

Best Deed: To offer prayer at its appointed time

"When, the son of Adam recites the Ayat of Sajdah (prostration) and then falls down in prostration, the Satan goes into seclusion and weeps and says: Alas, and in the narration of Abu Kuraib the words are: Woe unto me, the son of Adam was commanded to prostrate, and he prostrated and Paradise was entitled to him and I was commanded to prostrate, but I refused and am doomed to Hell."
[Sahih Muslim : Book 1 Kitab Al-Iman, Number 144]

It is narrated on the authority of 'Abdullah b. Mas'ud (Radi Allah Anhu) that he observed. I asked the Messenger of Allah (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) which deed was the best. He (the Holy Prophet) replied: Prayer at its appointed hour. I (again) said: Then what? He (the Holy Prophet) replied: Kindness to the parents. I (again) said: Then what? He replied: Earnest endeavour (Jihad) in the cause of Allah. And I would have not ceased asking more questions but out of regard (for his feelings).[Sahih Muslim : Book 1 Kitab Al-Iman, Number 151]

Finding Faults in others

Finding fault in others is one's greatest fault." Hazrat Ali (RA)

Backbiting and Slandering

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said :"Do you know what backbiting is?" They said, "God and His Messenger know best." He then said, "It is to say something about your brother that he would dislike." Someone asked him, "But what if what I say is true?" The Messenger of God said, "If what you say about him is true, you are backbiting him, but if it is not true then you have slandered him." (Muslim)

Relieveing hardship of a Muslim

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Whosoever relieves another Muslim of any hardship, Allah will relieve him from one of the hardships of the Day of Resurrection.” (Muslim)

This is such a great lesson highlighting that we should all help each other as much as we can.

Generosity

“I have never seen two women more generous than ❀‘Â`ishah and Asmâ'.❀  They had different ways of being generous. As for ‘Â`ishah, she used to gather things, until she had a collection, then she would distribute it. As for Asmâ`, she would never keep anything until the next day.”

Shaking of hands

Barra' (ra) related that Rasulullah (saw) said, "There is no two Muslims who meet and shake each other's hand unless both their sins are forgiven before they part."

What Allah has hated and what Allah has forbidden

Narrated Al-Mughira bin Shu'ba:

The Prophet said, "Allah has forbidden for you,

(1) to be undutiful to your mothers,

(2) to bury your daughters alive

(3) to not to pay the rights of the others (e.g. charity, etc.)

and (4) to beg of men (begging)

and Allah has hated for you

(1) vain, useless talk, or that you talk too much about others,

(2) to ask too many questions, (in disputed religious matters)

and (3) to waste the wealth (by extravagance)."

Wealth of this world

Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “By Allah, I am not afraid that you will be poor, but I fear that worldly wealth will be bestowed upon you as it was bestowed upon those who lived before you. So you will compete amongst yourselves for it, as they competed for it, and it will destroy you as it did them." [Bukhari]

O you who have believed, do not invalidate your charities with reminders or injury as does one who spends his wealth [only] to be seen by the people and does not believe in Allah and the Last Day. His example is like that of a [large] smooth stone upon which is dust and is hit by a downpour that leaves it bare. They are unable [to keep] anything of what they have earned. And Allah does not guide the disbelieving people.    Quran 2:264

Entering and Leaving the House

A Muslim goes out and returns home many times a day; for prayers, work or for whatever and every time he/she applies these sunnahs, he/she gets great reward from Allah as he/she submits to His Prophet's (PBUH) teachings.

An Nawawi said: "it is preferred to say (in the name of Allah) and repeat (remembrance) of Allah frequently.

1 Mentioning regards to Allah

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "when a man mention Allah while entering his house and when he eats, the devil says to his mates (there is no food or shelter for this night for you) " [Muslim, The Book of Drinks, Hadith 2018]

2 Entrance Du'aa

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: " say, Bismillaahi walajnaa, wa bismillaahi kharajnaa, wa 'alaaRabblnaa tawakkalnaa (O Allah I ask you the best out of entrance and the best out of exit, I enter in the name of Allah and exit in the name of Allah, I put my trust in Allah) then salute his family. (say As-Salaamu 'Alaykum)" [Aboo Dawood, The Book of Good Manners, Hadith 5096]

This is the way a man depends on Allah while entering or exiting, which keeps him/her always connected to Allah.

3 Using Sewak

Imam Muslim narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) used Sewak while taking his first steps into home. [Muslim, The Book of Purification, Hadith 253]

4 Salutation

Allah says: "So when you enter houses, salute one another (Literally: salute yourselves) with a greeting from the Providence of Allah, blessed and good". (An Noor :61)

Supposing that a Muslim who goes for prayers in the Mosque practice these Sunnahs; that would make 20 Sunnahs aday.

5  Going out

A Muslim should say this du'aa :

Bismillaahi, tawakkaltu 'alallaahi, wa laa hawla wa laa quwwata ‘ illaa billaah. (in the name of Allah, I put my trust in Allah, Whatever Allah wishes will be; there is no strength except from Allah) so he gets protected, secured, guarded and the devil steps away from him)
[Aboo Dawood, The Book of Good Manners, Hadith 5095; At-Tirmidhee, The Book of Supplication, Hadith 3426]

The outcome of the application of these sunnahs:

1- A Muslim gets protected from whatever evil he gets in touch with.
2- A Muslim gets secured from whatever evil that might hurt him.

Merits of Charity, Forgiveness & Humility

Abu Huraira (Radi Allah Anhu) reported Allah's Messenger (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) as saying: Charity does not in any way decrease the wealth and the servant who forgives Allah adds to his respect, and the one who shows humility Allah elevates him in the estimation (of the people).  [Sahih Muslim: Book 32 'Kitab Al-Birr was-Salat-I-wa'l-Adab', Number 6264]

Offering Iftar to other Muslims

“Whoever gives iftaar to one who is fasting will have a reward like his, without that detracting from the fasting person’s reward in the slightest.”   [Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 807; Ibn Maajah, 1746; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi, 647.]

Having a good wife is a treasure

"A righteous wife to help you with your worldly and religious affairs is the best treasure anyone could have." (Reported by al-Bayhaqi. Sahih al-Jaami’, 4285)

‎Fasting is a cleansing agent for the body

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Everything has a cleansing agent and fasting is the cleansing agent for the body. Fasting is more a matter of patience than of anything else." (Ibn Majah)

Combining Fasting with feeding the poor

Combining fasting with feeding the poor is one of the means of reaching Paradise, as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“In Paradise there are rooms whose outside can be seen from the inside and the inside can be seen from the outside. Allaah has prepared them for those who feed the poor, who are... gentle in speech, who fast regularly and who pray at night when people are asleep.”
[Reported by Ahmad 5/343; Ibn Khuzaymah, no. 2137. Al-Albaani said in his footnote, its isnaad is hasan because of other corroborating reports].

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever gives food to a fasting person with which to break his fast, will have a reward equal to his, without it detracting in the slightest from the reward of the fasting person.”
[Reported by al-Tirmidhi, 3/171; Saheeh al-Targheeb, 1/451). Shaykh al-Islam [Ibn Taymiyah] (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: “What is meant is that he should feed him until he is satisfied.” (Al-Ikhtiyaaraat al-Fiqhiyyah, p. 109].

Lailatul Qadr

Narrated Abu Salama (Radi Allah Anhu) : I asked Abu Sa'id (Radi Allah Anhu) about the Night of Qadr and he said, "We practised Itikaf in the middle third month of Ramazan with Prophet Muhammad (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam). In the morning of the 20th of Ramazan, the Prophet Muhammad (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) came to and addressed us and said, " I was informed of the date of the Night of Qadr but I was caused to forget it, or I forget, so search it in the last ten nights of month of Ramazan."  [Sahih Bukhari : Volume 3, Book 32 "Taraweeh" , Number 233]

Abu Huraira (Radi Allah Anhu) reported: We were talking about Lailat-ul-Qadr in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) and he said: "He who amongst you remembers (the night) when the moon arose and it was like a piece of plate (at the fag end of the month in a state of waning)."
[Sahih Muslim : Book 6 "Kitab Al-Sawm", Number 2635]

Power and Importance of Istighfar (Seeking Forgiveness)

This story about “Istighfar” is from the life of Imam Ahmed Bin Hanbal, who is considered as a renowned scholar of Islam and a famous theologian. Imam Ahmed is also considered to be the founder of the Hanbali school of fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) and is one of the most celebrated Sunni theologians, often referred to as the "Sheikh ul-Islam" or the "Imam of Ahl al-Sunnah."

During his old age, while Imam Ahmed was travelling he stopped by a town. After the prayers, he wanted to stay for the night in the masjid yard because he didn’t know anyone in the town. Owing to his humility, he hadn’t introduced himself to anyone thinking that if he did, he would be welcomed by many people.

Failing to recognize Ahmed bin Hanbal, the caretaker of the mosque refused to let him stay in the mosque. As Imam Ahmed was quite old, the caretaker had to drag him out of the mosque. On seeing this, a baker from a nearby place felt pity for this man (Imam Ahmed) and offered to be the host to him for the night. During his stay with the baker, Imam Ahmed observed that the baker would constantly recite Istighfar (seek forgiveness from Allah). Imam Ahmed asked the baker if the constant practice of saying Istighfar had any effect on him. The baker responded by telling Imam Ahmed that Allah had accepted all of his duas (supplications), except one. When he asked him what dua was it that hadn’t been accepted, the baker replied that he had been asking Allah to provide him the privilege to meet the famous scholar Imam Ahmed bin Hanbal.

On this, Imam Ahmed bin Hanbal said that Allah had not only listened to his dua but had dragged him onto his (the baker’s) doorsteps. [Summarized from Al Jumuah magazine, vol 19, issue 7]

This story is a reminder of the power of saying Istighfar (seeking forgiveness) frequently. Let’s remember that the prophet used to say Istighfar frequently during the day. Tafseer Al-Qurtubi states:

A man complained to Al-Hasan about a drought, and he said to him: “Pray to Allah for forgiveness.”

Another man complained to him of poverty and he said to him: “Pray to Allah to forgive you.”

Another man said to him: “Pray to Allah to bless me with a child.” He said: “Pray to Allah for forgiveness.”

Another complained to him that his garden was dry. He said to him: “Pray to Allah for forgiveness.”

He was asked about it and he said: “This is not my personal opinion, for Allah says in Surah Nooh (interpretation of the meaning): ‘Ask forgiveness from your Lord, verily, He is Oft Forgiving; He will send rain to you in abundance. And give you increase in wealth and children, and bestow on you gardens and bestow on you rivers.” Tafseer Al-Qurtubi (18/301-302)

One of the narrators of a Hadith was asked about the manner in which forgiveness is to be sought, to which he answered: "The Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) used to say: ‘Astaghfirullah! Astaghfirullah! (I beseech Allah for forgiveness, I beseech Allah for forgiveness)’.” [Sahih Muslim].

Quran: Surah Al-Hadid verse 21

‎"Race toward forgiveness from your Lord and a Garden whose width is like the width of the heavens and earth, prepared for those who believed in Allah and His Messengers. That is the bounty of Allah which He gives to whom He wills, and Allah is the possessor of great bounty"

Quran 57:21

‎Allah SWT smiles at you when you do the following three things:

1. Performing Hajj

2. When you're in a gathering and the time for prayer starts and you leave what you are doing behind and walk to the mosque

3. When you wake at Tahhajud time and wake your partner and perform Tahhajud
